Participants attending "First Thanksgiving" Community Puppet Workshop in Tulsa will create a paper craft puppet portrait of a historical figure. With the help of the facilitators, each participant will identify European and Indigenous figures involved in the first Thanksgiving on the tribal lands of the Wampanoag and create a puppet of that person. Hosts Apvlvnev Piña (Mvskoke and Xicana) and Tulsa Artist Fellow Karl Jones will facilitate conversations about the history of this early encounter as craft participants work.

Jones and Piña collaborated previously on an interactive puppet musical on Mexican Modernism for kids at the Gilcrease Museum of Arts in Tulsa. They performed a free-ranging musical educational experience covering the origins of Mayan mathematics, the history of the Mexican Revolution, and the origins of Mexican modernism featuring historical puppet figures ranging from Pancho Villa and Hun Hunaphu to Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.
