LALTulsa is a new reading and conversation series with translators and authors who bring contemporary Latin American literature to life in English, hosted by Arthur Malcolm Dixon, Tulsa Artist Fellow and Managing Editor of Latin American Literature Today.
Join us on Monday, January 30 for the inaugural edition of LALTulsa: an engaging bilingual reading and conversation with Robin Myers and Daniel Lipara, the translator-author pair behind ANOTHER LIFE, longlisted for the 2022 National Translation Award in poetry, as well as the work-in-progress LIKE THE NIGHT INSIDE THE EYES, a hybrid book of poetry and essays that Robin is translating as a 2023 National Endowment for the Arts Translation Fellow.
Robin Myers is a Mexico City-based poet and Spanish-to-English translator. Her latest book-length translations include Bariloche by Andrés Neuman (2023), The Book of Explanations by Tedi López Mills (2022), Copy by Dolores Dorantes (2022), and The Dream of Every Cell by Maricela Guerrero (2022). Other translations have appeared in Granta, The Baffler, Kenyon Review, The Common, Harvard Review, Two Lines, Waxwing, and elsewhere. A 2023 National Endowment for the Arts Translation Fellow, she was longlisted twice for the 2022 National Translation Award in poetry and was among the winners of the 2019 Poems in Translation Contest (Words Without Borders / Academy of American Poets). As a poet, Robin’s work has been selected for the 2022 Best American Poetry anthology and appears in The Drift, Poetry London, Yale Review, Denver Quarterly, Annulet Poetry Journal, Massachusetts Review, and other journals. Her collections have been published as bilingual English-Spanish editions in Mexico, Argentina, Chile, and Spain. She is an alumna of the Vermont Studio Center, the Banff Literary Translation Centre, the Community of Writers, and Under the Volcano. She is represented by the Willenfield Literary Agency.
Daniel Lipara—poet, translator, and editor—was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1987. His translations from English to Spanish include Learning to Sleep by John Burnside (Bajo la Luna) and Memorial by Alice Oswald (co-translated with Mirta Rosenberg); he has also translated Charles Wright, James Merrill, and Robert Lowell. Otra vida, translated into English as Another Life by Robin Myers, is his first book of poetry. His work has appeared in Hablar de Poesía (Argentina) and Periódico de Poesía (Mexico), among other publications, as well as in English in Tupelo Quarterly. He lives in Buenos Aires.
Arthur Malcolm Dixon is co-founder, lead translator, and Managing Editor of Latin American Literature Today. He has translated the novels Immigration: The Contest by Carlos Gámez Pérez and There Are Not So Many Stars by Isaí Moreno (Katakana Editores), as well as the verse collection Intensive Care by Arturo Gutiérrez Plaza (Alliteratïon). He also works as a community interpreter in Tulsa, Oklahoma and is a Tulsa Artist Fellow.
