C.Q.P.S. PRESENTS BIMBO SUMMIT, A PRIVATE DRAG SHOW

IMAGE: Visitors at April 2023 First Friday in Kalup Linzy studio

Tulsa Artist Fellowship programming is free and open to all.

Upcoming First Friday art crawl, Tulsa Artist Fellowship invites community members to the closing of the C.Q.P.S. exhibition. If you haven't had a chance to experience the artwork on view, we invite you to join us on May 5 from 6-9pm for the closing reception. This will be your last chance to view the exhibition, which features the work of 2SLGBTQ+ artists Adah Robinson, Bruce Goff, Lynn Riggs, and Olinka Hrdy, alongside presentations of queer prairie history in the form of authentic and fabricated archival materials and historically inspired installations.

To make the closing exhibition even more special, C.Q.P.S. will present a private drag show called Bimbo Summit. This drag show features amateur drag performances by a group of friends within the Tulsa queer community. Harkening back to days when cross-dressing in public was illegal, and forms of queer expression took place only in private, Bimbo Summit presents a drag show of friends by and for each other. Presented as a performance piece with partially obfuscated views for the public, the drag performers maintain distance and preserve the fourth wall, in sharp contrast to contemporary professional drag shows in which performers mingle with and solicit tips from a public audience.

In addition to the closing reception, Archer Studios will be opening their workspaces to the public. You'll have the opportunity to meet artists Arthur Haywood, Natani Notah, Rafael Corzo, Andy Arkley, Richard Zimmerman, Karl Jones, Carl Antonowicz, and more. As always, our friends at Heirloom Rustic Ales will be pouring refreshing brews at all Tulsa Artist Fellowship locations.

We hope to see you on May 5 for an evening of art, drag, and community.
