CINEDOOM in partnership with Sundance Film Institute and Tulsa Artist Fellowship presents GUSH by Fox Maxy at Circle Cinema. This free screening features a special introduction by Blackhorse Lowe, Tulsa Artist Fellow, CINEDOOM curator, and award-winning filmmaker. In her first feature, acclaimed video artist Fox Maxy uncorks a deluge of images captured and created over nearly 10 years. Drawn from Maxy’s personal archives, Gush is a kaleidoscopic swirl of moments that exists outside of common genres and forms, evoking through recalled words and rhyming visuals the experience of trauma and recovery. Using a mix of original documentary footage, archival television clips, animation, and other formats, sometimes layered on top of one another, Maxy interrogates sexual violence and personal freedom in a highly intimate, deeply personal style. Gush provides a space for celebrating confidence, community, and joy—even and especially amidst the sensory barrage of contemporary living.

Fox Maxy is a filmmaker and artist based in San Diego, CA. Her work has screened at BAM CinemaFest, International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), imagineNATIVE Festival, MoMAs Doc Fortnight, LACMA, AFI Docs and Camden International Film Festival among other places. Maxy’s first feature film, Watertight, is “a collection of interviews about mental health and suicide, interrupted by fake commercials, reality tv parodies, animations and archival footage. Watertight flips through channels, traveling around Indian country and big cities, following people who create their own realities.” Fox Maxy is the recent recipient of the Sundance Film Institute's Merata Mita Fellow. Fox Maxy (Payómkawichum and Mesa Grande Band of Mission Indians) was recognized at the Native Forum Celebration on The Spaceship in the Festival Online Platform during the 2022 Sundance Film Festival. Filmmaker Magazine listed her as one of the 25 New Faces in Independent Film in 2021.
Blackhorse Lowe is a filmmaker from the Navajo Nation and a multi-alum of the Sundance Film Institute. A recipient of the Panavision Award, his work has garnered accolades internationally at prominent festivals including Sundance and Tribeca. Recently, he directed and wrote episodes for the groundbreaking FX series “Reservation Dogs” created by Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi. Lowe is a current Tulsa Artist Fellow and is in development for an epic feature “Lords of the Earth.”
