Laurie Thomas is a writer and filmmaker. Thomas’ short films have screened at film festivals internationally including Palm Springs International Shorts Festival, Florida Film Festival, and Seattle International Film Festival. In 2017, her commissioned short doc, Black Girl Magic, about the lives of young Black girls, was nominated for a National Magazine Award in Video. She is a producer of the short dark comedy, Everybody Dies!, which premiered at SXSW as part of the omnibus feature, Collective: Unconscious. As a fiction writer, Thomas has been a participant of the Tin House Intensive Workshop and is a Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference scholarship recipient. Thomas holds an MFA in Film and has been awarded fellowships from the MacDowell Colony and Tulsa Artist Fellowship, among others.
