Join Oklahoma biologists and conservationists for a panel discussing the biological/ecological impact of the new Arkansas River dams (Zink and Jenks Dam). This panel is a call to action for local artists—our river and its species need your involvement.

Bryon Helm is a civil rights attorney based in Tulsa. He graduated with a B.A. Philosophy from Oklahoma State University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Tulsa College of Law. He is one of the Directors of Tulsa River Guardians, Inc., an Oklahoma non-profit committed to working throughout the Watershed of the Arkansas River and its tributaries, in the state of Oklahoma and Osage, Mvskoke, Cherokee, and Choctaw Nations, to restore the river system’s natural balance where it has been lost and ensure its preservation where it still exists. Bryon is a huge fan of the striped bass and blue heron that call the Arkansas River home, and estimates he spends around 500 hours a year exploring, fishing, and photographing the River as it flows through Tulsa County.

Brad Johnston is the North East Region Fisheries Supervisor for the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. He has worked for ODWC in the North East region for 15 years as a fisheries technician, fisheries biologist, and now as the Supervisor. He obtained his Bachelors of Science Degree from Northeastern State University. He spends the vast majority of his time outdoors, either while at work or just enjoying time with his wife and three sons.

Josh Johnston is a biologist currently working with state and federal officials, as well as fishermen to provide the best solutions for monitoring commercial fishing activities. Throughout his career with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, he actively worked with game and non-game fish species in both streams and reservoirs. Much of his career has been spent on the Arkansas River, leading or assisting in research projects on Shovelnose Sturgeon, Striped Bass, and Sauger, to name a few.

Jake Miller is an owner of the local brewery, Heirloom Rustic Ales. He is an avid fly fishing angler and river enthusiast. He is the Conservation Chair for the Oklahoma Chapter of Trout Unlimited, and a legislative committee member for the Conservation Coalition of Oklahoma. When he isn't fishing, he's probably reading Jim Harrison, Tom McGuane, and Harry Middleton and thinking about fishing.
