Tulsa Artist Fellowship programming is free and open to all
On Saturdays, May 27 & June 3, Tulsa Artist Fellow Richard Zimmerman will facilitate a free paint-making workshop serving as an introduction to common methods and materials used in the production of paint for use in fine art applications. Over the course of two 3-hour sessions, participants will learn how to transform pure pigments and gum arabic into highly-saturated watercolor paints. Participants will engage in hands-on interactions with the materials to make a variety of different paints and art materials while exploring the history of this process.
No prior experience with painting or paint-making is required. This workshop will be ideal for artists interested in painting and drawing who would like to expand the possibilities of their medium. Tulsa Artist Fellowship will supply all materials tools and materials needed. Participants will leave the workshop with a set of watercolors that they personally created.
Richard Zimmerman was born in 1981 and currently lives and works in New York. He earned an MFA in Studio Art from Cornell University and a BFA in Painting from Pratt Institute. While at Cornell University, he was a recipient of the John Hartell Graduate Award, a Cornell Council for the Arts Grant, and a nomination for The Dedalus Foundation Master of Fine Arts Fellowship in Painting and Sculpture. He was recently awarded a residency at Real Time & Space in Oakland, CA. His past exhibitions include Fluid Means at Artlot, Brooklyn, Touch Move at Royal Nonesuch Gallery, Oakland (2017), After Laughter at Werk Gallery, Los Angeles, and Meditating America at the Center on Contemporary Art, Seattle.

Archer Studios accommodates wheelchairs and strollers. Variable seating is provided in addition to areas for distanced standing and wheelchairs. Family-scale private washrooms are available, designed to support visitors with disabilities and caregivers who need access to increased square footage and changing tables. The elevator at Archer Studios is located at the main west entrance on Martin Luther King Blvd. Street-side parking is available using the Park Mobile App and is free after 5pm and all-day Saturday-Sunday.
