Join Tulsa Artist Fellowship, Tulsa Film Collective, and Waters Media at Philbrook Museum of Art for a special community screening of the documentary feature film Lainey Wilson: Keepin’ Country Cool. This program brings together Tulsa-based artists, emerging filmmakers, students, and community members for an evening centered on storytelling, representation, and creative career pathways.
The screening will be followed by a live Q&A conversation with director Amy Scott, moderated by Tulsa Artist Fellow and filmmaker Loren Waters. The discussion will explore Scott’s journey growing up in Tulsa, her path into directing high-profile music documentaries, and her experience working with country music artist Lainey Wilson. Special emphasis will be placed on navigating the film industry as a woman, the power of authentic storytelling, and the importance of staying rooted in one’s identity while building a creative career.

Amy Scott's feature documentary follows Lainey Wilson as she redefines the modern country star, proving that staying true to yourself can lead to major success. Paired with the post-screening conversation, the program offers both artistic inspiration and practical insight into the filmmaking process.
This event is designed to serve Tulsa’s creative community by providing direct access to an accomplished director with local roots. By hosting this program in a community-centered venue, the goal is to create an accessible, inspiring space that fosters dialogue, encourages artistic growth, and highlights pathways for local storytellers to see themselves reflected in the industry.
DIRECTOR
Amy Scott is an award-winning filmmaker known for crafting intimate, character-driven documentaries that spotlight artists, musicians, and cultural underdogs. Originally from Oklahoma, she brings a sharp eye for storytelling and a deep sense of empathy to her work, often exploring the personal and emotional landscapes behind public personas. Her feature directorial debut, Hal (Sundance 2018), profiled maverick filmmaker Hal Ashby and was distributed by Oscilloscope. She followed with Sheryl (SXSW 2022), a candid portrait of Sheryl Crow for Showtime. In 2024, she co-directed Melissa Etheridge: I’m Not Broken, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and streamed on Paramount+. Her latest film, Counting Crows: Have You Seen Me Lately?, premieres at Tribeca 2025 and will air as part of HBO’s Music Box series. Amy’s work is grounded in authenticity, archival depth, and a fierce commitment to telling stories that amplify the voices of artists, outsiders, and cultural iconoclasts.
MODERATOR
Loren Waters (Cherokee/Kiowa) is an award-winning filmmaker and founder of Waters Media. She has been recognized on prestigious lists, including Forbes 30 Under 30 and Filmmaker Magazine’s 25 New Faces. She currently serves as the Executive Director of the Lindy Waters III Foundation and is a 2026-2028 Tulsa Artist Fellow. Her short documentary film, Tiger, received the Short Film Special Jury Award for Directing at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.

Tulsa Film Collective (TFC) is dedicated to nurturing Tulsa's filmmaker community through dynamic community events and skill-enhancing workshops. Founded in 2018, TFC is committed to sharing the love and appreciation of film, strengthening connections, and sustaining the magic of movie-making in Tulsa.
Waters Media is a Tulsa-based production company rooted in community-centered storytelling. Founded by Indigenous filmmaker Loren Waters, the company’s work includes award-winning documentaries, impact-driven media, and casting for acclaimed television series and feature films. Through film, workshops, and collaborative projects, Waters Media creates spaces for authentic representation while supporting the next generation of Native storytellers.
