THE DEATH PENALTY IN OKLAHOMA AND THE CASE OF TREMANE WOOD
Thursday, October 23, 2025
6:30 – 8:30 PM | Virtual Program
Join advocates, family members, faith leaders, policymakers, and others for a conversation on October 23rd at 6:30 PM, about the history and current state of the death penalty in Oklahoma and the case of Tremane Wood. Guest speakers include Randy Bauman, ACLU of Oklahoma Of Council; Joia Thornton, Faith Leaders of Color Coalition; Amanda Bass-Castro Alves, lawyer for Tremane Wood.
Tremane Wood is facing execution for “felony-murder,” meaning he did not kill or intend to kill the victim in his case. Oklahoma is one of the few states that still allows capital punishment for felony-murder convictions. Additional evidence shows that prosecutors misled the jury and concealed evidence of witness deals. Even the victim’s family has joined the call to spare his life. Mr. Wood’s final plea is scheduled for November 5th — only eight days before his scheduled execution on November 13. Learn more about Tremane Wood here.
Co-organized by Tulsa Artist Fellow, Pardiss Kebriaei, Advocates for Tremane Wood, and the American Civil Liberties Union of Oklahoma (ACLU-OK), in co-presentation with the Tulsa Artist Fellowship.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Oklahoma (ACLU-OK) is a nonprofit, non-partisan, privately funded organization devoted exclusively to the defense and promotion of the individual rights secured by the U.S. and Oklahoma constitutions. We dare to create a more perfect union — beyond one person, party, or side. Our mission is to realize the promise of the United States Constitution and the Oklahoma Constitution for all, and to expand the reach of its guarantees. The ACLU of Oklahoma is an affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union, which has been at the center of nearly every major civil liberties battle in the U.S. for more than 100 years. We have a proud history of advocating for all Oklahomans while working closely with our National office and other affiliates across the country.
