Mass Movement Community Arts
1217 E Admiral Blvd., Tulsa, OK
Co-presented by One Aux and Tulsa Artist Fellowship.
Serpentine Transmission celebrates the release of their first studio album, of mud and gold, with their first performances outside of Los Angeles. The improvised music quartet features Nicki Chen on electro-acoustic viola, Nicholas Deyoe on guitar, M.A. Harms on drums and percussion, and Tulsa Artist Fellow Micaela Tobin on voice and electronics.
In performance, Serpentine Transmission slithers through delicate melodies and atmospheric textures into extreme sound walls of doom, drone, and noise. The evening also features Tulsa-based experimental heavy sound groups Crescent Window and The Blackstar Experience, with an opening set by Tulsa Artist Fellow Baseck as DJ BLISS MODE.
PERFORMERS
Serpentine Transmission is an improvised music quartet of Nicki Chen (electro-acoustic viola), Nicholas Deyoe (guitar), M.A. Harms (drums/percussion), and Micaela Tobin (voice and electronics). In performance, they slither their way through delicate melodies and atmospheric textures into extreme sound walls of doom, drone, and noise.
Crescent Window is an improvisational avant-garde supergroup collective of artists featuring theatrical performances and multimedia collaborations. The music features mostly instruments they have invented, such as the Rotary Harmonic Tube Zither and Anti-Harmonicas. Crescent Window enjoys live scoring: local films, movement and dance, live painting, puppet shows, and more!
Est. 2014, The Blackstar Experience is an experimental music collective with a rotating cast of collaborators, blending diverse influences to make each release and performance unique, immersive and reflect their dynamic and ever-changing nature. Expanding their musical boundaries 'til collapse or heat death.
From the mind of Baseck, DJ BLISS MODE (tongue-in-cheekily named, as not a DJ at all) is an exploration of the ethereal and hypnotic through trance and dance. Described by Wandcamp on his release Soft Clouds as “baseckly derrick taking a breather,” DJ BLISS MODE offers a reflective pause from the intensity and chaos of Baseck’s usual warrior rhythms, highlighting his versatility as an artist and inviting audiences into a gentler space. Soundtracks for astral projection, DJ BLISS MODE crafts audible Heaven on Earth through synthesis of styles reminiscent of trance, witchhouse, and even ambient.
