The University of Tulsa School of Music and Tulsa Artist Fellowship present an evening of experimental chamber music, bringing Tulsa composer and TU faculty member Alican Çamcı together with andPlay, the violin and viola duo of Maya Bennardo and Hannah Levinson.
The concert features the premiere of a new composition by Çamcı, developed in collaboration with andPlay, alongside works from the duo’s repertoire. Known for expanding the possibilities of the violin and viola through experimentation and sustained exchange with composers, andPlay has commissioned more than 45 works since forming in 2012.
The performance culminates andPlay’s October 21–24 visit to Tulsa, hosted by Çamcı and the TU School of Music, with workshops and class visits exploring contemporary string techniques, composition, and the collaborative process of making new music.
ARTISTS
Alican Çamcı is a composer and J. Donald Feagin Assistant Professor of Music and Film at The University of Tulsa. His work moves across concert music, electronics, sound design, and media art, often bringing instrumental performance into dialogue with field recordings, speech, and found sound. Çamcı holds a Ph.D. in composition from the University of Chicago and degrees from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University.
andPlay is the violin and viola duo of Maya Bennardo and Hannah Levinson. Founded in 2012, the ensemble is dedicated to expanding the repertoire for its instrumentation through commissioning and close collaboration with living artists. The duo has commissioned more than 45 works and performed at contemporary music venues, festivals, and universities across the United States and internationally.
Bennardo is a violinist, improviser, composer, and founding Artistic Director of andPlay, whose practice explores the boundaries between composer and performer. Levinson is a violist, founding Executive Director of andPlay, and Assistant Professor of Viola at Bowling Green State University.
